Knowledge Translation Awards Quick Links
These awards are intended to assist groups in the transfer and application of research results to practice. The objectives are as follows:

Ensure findings reach an end user;

Analyze research results as they emerge;
-
Plan methods for transfer of new research knowledge;
-
Identify approaches to the effective application of new research knowledge;
-
In selective cases, develop pilot projects to test new evidence-based practice with funding support from the Centre.
Knowledge Transfer Grants
The emphasis should be on identifying target audiences outside the research field and developing innovative methods for the transfer and application of knowledge.
Overview

Grant Maximum up to $2,000.00
-
Up to 12 months from the date of the award
Eligibility
-
Any Centre funded researcher who has completed a Level II, III, or IV research project is eligible to apply.
Knowledge Application Awards
Ideally, these awards will result in the development of pilot projects, including but not limited to:
-
Integrating a new protocol or screen into professional/clinical practice;
-
Adding controls or changes to policy or practice in response to information about vulnerable groups;
-
Changing clinical protocols to better manage problem gambler sub-types.
Overview

Grant Maximum up to $10,000.00
-
Up to 12 months from the date of the award
Eligibility
-
There must be a partnership between an organization and the researcher whose findings will be applied to practice
-
Application may originate from either the researcher or the organization
-
Project focus must be on benefiting the health of Ontario residents
Knowledge Transfer Awards Guidelines
Applications must include a cover page, a request section, and any attachments.
Cover Page
Must be one (1) page and submitted on the official letterhead of the applicant's affiliated organization. The cover page must include:

Applicant's name, institutional affiliation, title, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address;
-
Sponsoring organization (if applicable);
-
Total funds requested;
-
Applicant's signature;
-
Date of request.
Request Section
Must not exceed two (2) pages, excluding attachments. Applications must clearly identify:

Target audience or audiences who can directly apply the research findings in their work to improve the health of Ontarians;
-
Specific information and messages to be translated;
-
Vehicle(s) to be used to deliver the messages (e.g., conference presentations, continuing education seminars, briefings, print materials);
-
Expected knowledge acquisition and intended behavioural application;
-
Evaluation component to determine whether the above outcome was achieved;
-
Costs.
Knowledge Transfer Awards Evaluation & Scoring
Applications are evaluated by Centre staff according to the following criteria:
-
Importance of the findings to key audiences in Ontario;
-
Identification of the appropriate audiences;
-
Identification of the most effective delivery vehicles;
-
Quality of the program or materials;
-
Quality of the evaluation component;
-
Appropriateness of the proposed budget.
Feedback
The decision of the Centre is final, with no provisions for appeal. Unsuccessful applicants may resubmit revised or new applications, and may request feedback regarding the reasons for the rejection of an application.
Knowledge Application Awards Guidelines
Applications must include a Cover Page and a Proposal not exceeding three (3) pages.
Application
Cover Page
Must be one (1) page and submitted on the official letterhead of the sponsoring organization. The cover page must include:

Name of the grant: "Application for Knowledge Application Award";

Title of the project;
-
Name of the sponsoring organization, and its status (e.g., not-for-profit, hospital, university);
-
Name of the Applicant and Project Contact Person (if different);
-
Institutional affiliation, title, address, telephone and fax numbers, and email address for each person named;
-
Dates of proposed period of support;
-
Total dollar amount requested;
-
Dated signature of the Applicant, the Project Contact Person (if applicable) and the individual authorized to sign on behalf of the sponsoring organization.
Proposal
Applications must identify:
-
Target audience/end user;
-
Change to be integrated into practice;
-
Rationale for change;
-
Methodology/Integration process (e.g., training, production of materials, record keeping);
-
Evaluation (e.g., practitioner feedback, client feedback, outcome measures);
-
Key activities for the proposed project;
-
Budget overview and justification.
Overview of the Project Personnel
-
Describe the qualifications of the organization and the individuals involved in the project.
Ethics Approval (if research is to be conducted)
-
Outline any ethical considerations, and indicate how ethical review for any research component will be obtained.
Knowledge Application Awards Evaluation & Scoring
Applications for Knowledge Application Awards are evaluated by Centre staff against the following criteria:
Proposed Project

Importance of the findings to practice in Ontario;
-
Identification of the appropriate audiences;
-
Identification of the most effective delivery vehicles;
-
Quality of the program or materials;
-
Quality of the evaluation component.
Resources
-
Expertise - Are the applicants capable of carrying out the proposed work?
-
Budget - Is the project budget appropriate and justifiable?
The Centre may request revisions to the proposed project or budget, and may make these a condition of funding.
