The Gambling Research Synopsis Inventory – a partnership with CAMH and NSGF

The Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre (OPGRC) has partnered with the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation (NSGF) to develop the Gambling Research Synopsis Inventory – a resource that provides ready access to gambling research literature for researchers, practitioners, policy makers, government agencies, stakeholders, and the public.

The synopsis inventory contains concise summaries of gambling research articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals (e.g., gambling specialty journals such as International Gambling Studies and high-impact factor journals such as Addiction). Each synopsis is approximately one page in length and contains succinct detail regarding the articles’ purposes, methodologies, key results, limitations and conclusions. Thus far, the majority of the synopses that have been produced are based on articles published after the year 2004.

More than 200 synopses have been completed so far. The inventory is accessible through the OPGRC, CAMH, and NSGF websites. Via the website, the synopses are searchable by topic (e.g., prevention, treatment, screening/evaluation, risk factors, demographics, prevention) and by author-derived keywords. Links to access the full article are to be attached to each synopsis; currently, users can contact OPGRC for instructions on how to obtain the entire article.

OPGRC, CAMH and NSFG are looking forward to the continued development of the Gambling Research Synopsis Inventory during the next three years.
